Lucia Strings (Ilona Hepburn and Friends)

Book Tickets

We welcome the Lucia Strings for our final concert of the season – though more concerts are planned for September onwards!

Violins: Anita Naughton and Helen Tonge
Violas: Allison Calderbank and Laura Robinson
Cellos: Ilona and Lucy Hepburn
Ilona writes:
“We will be playing Schubert String Quintet and Brahms String Sextet No.2 in G Major, Op. 36.
We all have a love of chamber music, and a passion for playing the lesser-played jewels in the string quintet, sextet and octet repertoire. The rich sound of a string group of this size is an absolute joy!
It’s always more of a challenge to get 5 or 6 professional players’ diaries to work together for rehearsals, but we are dedicated to the cause!
It was a difficult decision choosing between both of Brahms’ string sextets, which are quite different, but both magical in their own right.
Brahms was 31 when he wrote this 2nd Sextet, and unlike the warm songlike character of the first, this one has a sense of mystery and celestial beauty, and has been described as the most ethereal of Brahms’ larger works. We just couldn’t resist jumping in with this one!…”
