Saturday 18th September marked the return of instrumental music to St Helens. The Sinfonietta presented at its Welcome Back recital, the Woodside String Quartet, led by the orchestra’s leader Tom Sykes, with the talented classical guitarist Eleanor Kelly in a programme of works from South America, composed by Astor Piazzolla and Claudia Montero. Entitled ‘Musica Argentina’, the audience were treated to the varied rhythms and colourful tunes from that part of the world. The Sinfonietta was delighted that so many old friends – and new faces – joined them for this recital. Many had taken advantage of booking tickets through our new online system, and found it easy to to get their tickets. We hope to see them again at the URC on 16th October, when Lynne Rogers (soprano) Jackie Howard (oboe) and Brenda Redmond (piano) will be leading us in a celebration of the British musical tradition.
