St Helens Sinfonietta is a chamber orchestra, run by volunteers and having charitable status. It presents St Helens and the surrounding area with about eight concerts a year, performed by both professional musicians and exceptionally talented young musicians. The concerts and recitals are usually held on Sunday afternoons at Ormskirk Street United Reformed Church, but please check day, time and venue when booking your tickets.
At least once a year, usually on a Saturday evening, we welcome the full Sinfonietta Orchestra. Some of our orchestra players have been with the Sinfonietta since its inaugural concert in October 1997, while others have been welcomed to the ranks much more recently. Over the last few years, the orchestral concerts have been led by guest student conductors affiliated with the Royal Northern College of Music and have also occasionally given young, talented music students a platform to display their skills.
Other concerts include recitals from solo performers or small ensembles, both from our orchestra and also by guest performers. We offer varied genres of music e.g. classical, contemporary and jazz, aiming to engage a wide audience and to collaborate with organisations throughout St Helens. We aim to make music more accessible to younger audiences by offering free concert tickets to under 21s, with under 16s being accompanied by an adult.
